The combined Power & Heat plant, Karlskoga Kraftvärmeverk AB, Sweden, has ordered the fifth
Ecotube-system. The plant is relatively new (1985), feeding the communities district heating
system as well as supplying steam to the nearby industries Bofors and Nobelverken. In 1991
the plant was supplemented with a combined gas cycle for power production. What
characterises the plant is the complexity; i.e. having made it possible in one single plant
to take advantages of different fuels in order to produce heat and power. The basic fuels
are different waste fractions and peat; others are coal, wood chips, LPG and fuel oil.
The Ecotube-system will be installed in the waste incinerator with a heat output of 12 MW
and a fuel consumption of approx. 35.000 tons of waste fractions per year. The incinerator
is equipped with fabric filters with a surface cover of both limestone and recirculated dust
from the electrostatic precipitator. The filter gives a very high separation of dust and
dioxine. The main purpose of installing the Ecotube-system is to reduce the NOx emissions in
the flue gas and thus decrease the NOx environmental fees as well as to increase the thermal
efficiency. The project has already started and the system is expected to be in operation by
the end of this year.
